JFW 2024 Harvest Winemaking Intern - Skylane Winery

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Facility Winemaker, the Harvest Winemaking Intern will provide support to the winemaking team. This is a seasonal position that generally runs between mid-July through the end of the year.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent college graduate to assist the winemaking team in managing the world's largest wine barrel cellar.

The Harvest Winemaking Intern will be primarily responsible for writing cellar work orders for juice receiving/barrel fills, juice inoculations/additions and barrel topping. Other tasks will require sensory analysis, monitoring fermentations, managing ML cultures, and assisting with harvest winemaking trials.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES:
•  Writing cellar work orders for juice receiving and barrel filling using proprietary winery software
•  Monitoring daily fermentation lab analysis and reporting/troubleshooting issues
•  Sensory evaluation of primary and secondary fermentations
•  Managing and monitoring ML cultures
•  Assist with harvest winemaking trials and data collection
•  Track harvest product ingredient inventory

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
•  Requires a bachelor's degree in Enology, Fermentation Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, or related field.
•  Experience in wine production required.
•  The qualified candidate will be well organized; detail oriented and possesses strong analytical skills.
•  The ability to work independently and with others at all levels of the organization is required. Intermediate to advanced computer skills in Word and Excel are required.
•  Must be willing to work flexible hours including overtime and varying shifts and must be willing to work the Harvest season.

Wage Transparency:

The base pay for this role ranges from $24.00 - $26.00 per hour. Compensation will be determined by candidate experience, skills, and location.
