2024 Vintage Cellar Hands

Outpost Wines

Angwin, CA

Job Description:

Outpost Wines is on the search for one more person to join our intern team for Harvest 2024. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to improve their cellar skills and advance their winemaking knowledge, while being exposed to the magic of Howell Mountain.

About the job:
- We will be processing approximately 200 tons.

- Mostly Cabernet, some Zinfandel, small amounts of other grapes.

- Outpost is an outdoor winery. This means gorgeous sunrises/sunsets and opportunities to see cool wildlife. This also means we work in the hot sun, cold rain and anything in between.

- The fruit comes from Howell Mountain, Diamond Mountain, Stags Leap, and To Kalon. This is an awesome opportunity to study some of the most highly regarded terroir in Napa.

- Hours will vary, up to 10–12-hour days, 6 days a week at the peak of harvest.

- This job is physically demanding, you must be able to walk a lot, stand for long periods of time, and lift heavy things.

- Lunches, snacks, and bevies are provided daily. Bonus: our Winemaker is an amazing cook and will make super tasty homemade lunches when he has the chance.

- In addition to the Outpost wines, we also make Schrader, Black Sears, Seaver, and Selah.

- The job will most likely run from September - mid November, depending on the vintage. Exact start dates will be set closer to harvest.

- Pay is $22/hour plus overtime.

- Duties will include but are not limited to: Vineyard work, cleaning, processing, fermentation monitoring, pumpovers/punchdowns, additions, drain/press. Cleaning is a big part of this job and we take it seriously.

About You:
- You like being outside. “Woah did you just see that sick hawk” is something you might say. You would enjoy the feeling of a warm Howell Mountain Breeze caressing your cheek as you work in the vineyard.

- You take pride in your work, we all do here!

- You have a keen eye for detail and get a sense of accomplishment from doing things well. We prize doing things well over doing things fast.

- You are down for the ride. Making wine is a multifaceted endeavor. Sometimes it’s crazy fun, sometimes it’s exhausting, sometimes you might be doing the same task over and over for hours, sometimes there is a lull in the workflow and there is time to relax. Being chill, reading the room and being able to go with the flow are essential to having a great harvest experience.

- You are a team player. We are all on team ‘make the best wines possible’ here. We all put the wines above our individual experiences, and you’ll be expected to do the same.

- You are down to have fun; the wines always taste better if the people making them are having a good time!

If you read through this description and feel like you might be a good fit, send over your resume and a cover letter. Experience in the wine industry is not required.
